After one week, I hope that everyone is feeling good about their technological selves. If not, allow me: "You're good enough, you're smart enough, and doggone it, people like you!" Just think, in 4 short weeks you will be an official tech guru. . .
You should have finished with your Into Letter, commented on your peers' blogs (and don't forget that you also need to comment on the class blog–It's part of the attendance and participation grade), submitted your EdTechProfile, scanned your self-portrait, joined EdModo and purchased your ISTE and TaskStream accounts. And you might have even looked at the Delicious assignment and skimmed Journal 1 ;-)
Tonight, we will begin our Classroom Newsletter and become acquainted with TaskStream.
TaskStream Self-Enroll Codes: You must enroll in both the TPA and Local TPE portfolios
Local: 6SG3BA
TPA: JF5BNH
Journal 2: I am choosing an interesting report published by the guardian UK, "How Teenages Consume Media: The Report that Shook the City" I thought future teachers and parents might find this interesting. I also wanted to give you a few more days to ensure you can access articles from ISTE's L&L
Today's Question: What is your all-time or current favorite teacher movie?
Mr. Holland's Opus has long been a favorite, but watching Freedom Writers about a year ago(I think...with Hillary Swank and Patrick Dempsey?) made me realize that I was really not happy doing what I've been doing for the last few year and get serious about teaching.
ReplyDeleteStand and Deliver is definitely my favorite teacher movie. Mainly because thats the only teacher movie that I can remember watching, plus its based on a true story.
ReplyDeleteI would have to choose between "The Paper Chase" and "The Dead Poet's Society". Sure, both old movies, but well worth the effort.
ReplyDeleteMy all-time favorite teacher movie is Dangerous Minds with Michelle Pfeiffer. It has a great story about a teacher influencing at risk kids inside and outside the classroom. She had to re-mold her lesson plans in order to have relatable and exciting curriculum.
ReplyDeleteStand and Deliver definitely takes the cake....only because I have seen it about 10 times (not by choice). But who doesn't love Dangerous Minds?!?! Coolio on the soundtrack...classic.
ReplyDeleteThis may seem silly but 'School of Rock' with Jack Black was fun to watch. It makes my family laugh so hard when we watch it together.
ReplyDeleteI totally loved Mr. Holland's Opus. It was such a great movie, and made me wonder about my teachers and the lives they lived.
ReplyDeleteI loved the made for TV movie " The Ron Clark Story." Because Clark inspired his kids to believe in themselves.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite teacher movies is Mona Lisa Smile. It is about a first-year teacher at Oakland State University, she tries to teach her female students about freedom. She inspires them to be who they want to be, and I think that is important.
ReplyDeleteDangerous Minds has to be my favorite because that song by Coolio "Gangsters Paradise" was off the hook.
ReplyDeleteMr. Holland's Opus is an awesome movie. It's probably the first teacher movie I ever saw, and I still watch it if I'm flipping channels and it's on TV.
ReplyDeleteThe one that's standing out in my mind right now is Sister Act. It's definitely meant to be more of an entertaining movie than it is a movie that focuses on teaching, but I like the way Whoopi shakes things up and more importantly, the way that she tries to get the students interested and invested in school.
ReplyDeleteFreedom Writers was awesome! It was so inspirational and of course had me reaching for tissues while watching it. It is a great story about how you can teach students to relate to one another so they can see that they are similar even though they feel they are so different from one another.
ReplyDeleteI'm going with Dead Poets Society, even though it had a sad ending!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite teacher movie has to be Kindergarten Cop. Just kidding! It has to be "To Sir with Love." "Call me Mr. Tibbs!"
ReplyDeleteMr. Holland's Opus has to be my favorite teacher movie. My band teacher in Middle School (who I know personally from working with his wife) retired the same year the movie came out and was a great influence not only in my life, but in my daughter's life as a musician as well.
ReplyDeleteI agree with b-ry that "Stand and Deliver" is my favorite. It's such a classic that doesn't age. As for teacher/teaching cartoons/shows, I love Shool House Rock and Bill-Ny The Science Guy (Spelling?).
ReplyDeleteI would have to say that my favorite teacher movie of all time is summer school. A classic, I would definitely recommend this to anyone with too much time on their hands.
ReplyDeleteDangerous Minds is my favorite teacher movie, I really liked it when I was younger. I watched it again recently and it seemed really corny but I like the message.
ReplyDeleteI loved the movie Freedom Writers. My daughter saw it in her English class in junior high a couple of years ago. She loved it so much herself & wanted to see it again with me!
ReplyDeleteI am so lost ... didn't know I missed these...but I'm back now. Anyway...Dangerous Minds!!!! By far, the best teacher movie out there. There have been many that have followed in its foot steps, but nothing has been better. This one made such a huge statement - I would call it a classic.
ReplyDeleteTHe Dead Poets Society is my favorit teacher movie. I saw this movie when I was a university student. Although this movie had a sad endind, it had an inspiring message to parents, students, and school principals.
ReplyDeleteI'd have to say "Sister Act II" with Whoopi Goldberg. She plays a (fake) nun in an inner city school, and she teaches her teenage students music. More importantly, they learn from her that they can become something more in life, instead of selling drugs or getting pregnant young like most people in their neighborhood. Lauryn Hill plays one of the students, and I love the scenes where she sings...gives me goosebumps!
